What temperature difference causes Exhaust Gas condensation?
I have a Marine turbo-diesel engine, gumming up the turbo with wet carbon deposits and I suspect the exhaust gas is exhaust manifold in the raw water condensing. Raw water temperature is 7-10C. Will this cause condensation? At what temperature of exhaust gas would not Condensate?
This is typical of not just the engine works hard enough, or get it to the optimum operating temperature. The raw water inlet to the exhaust should be below the turbo unit and has no effect on the turbo operating temperature, but most marine diesel get rare chance to work hard enough for thorough to get combustion. What are you looking at is basically unburned fuel and condensation of combustion gases from the engine, check the thermostat to ensure that the motor is always up to a decent temperature will also help.
